Swami Nammazhvar is known Para:nkusha mesning as Ankusha (hook, elephant goad) for perumal himself.
Ankusa means the goad (the stick with a sharp hook at the end) that is used to control an elephant. An Ankusa, therefore, is a weapon used to achieve some control over a powerful thing. Parankusa is Para + Ankusa. He is the Ankusa that defeats those who misinterpret the Sastras and invent their own philosophies. He does this through his upadesa, i.e. his teachings in his works.

Note:

Parankusha means the one who is the controller for Para. One interpretation is whatever is there in column D. Some elders beautifully say that Nammazhvar even controls perumAL Himself to grace his devotees – hence, Parankusa
