Question : Why is Sukla Ka:rthika eka:dasi called Kaisika ekadasi Posted On : 25-11-2018 ANSWER : Nampaaduvaan sang a song in Kaisika note that night for Vaishnava Nambi. The bramhara:kshas who wanted to first eat nampaaduvaan then asked for the fruit of the songs Nampaaduvaan sang to release him from that body. However nampaaduvaan said that he did not offer his songs as a business to receive punyas. However during the discussion the Bramharakshas got freed from that body and he gained a divine form. This ekadasi is known as Kaisika ekadasi after the song sung in Kaisika note. Note : The Kaisika story is read with the meaning at Sri Vaishnava shrines during this day In Srirangam, on this day, the scholar from Parasara bhattar lineage recites the story of Kaisika from the puranas. This practice was established by Ramanujacharya thousand years ago to show that a person can be a true devotee irrespective of his caste and social status and such a devotee is treated on par with Lord. Hence this is an extremely importsant day for us. |
