Question : According to the Lunar caledar when do we celebrate Lord Rama's birthday Posted On : 22-03-2018 ANSWER : Lord Rama's birthday occurs on Chaithra Shukla Navami (9th day of the growing phase of moon) in the first month of the new year Note : Jewel of the day: Lord Rama is an incarnation of Lord Sri:man Na:rayana, born to Dasaratha and Kausalya in Ikshva:ku dynasty. His incarnation took place on the ninth day of the growing phase of the moon, in the first month of the new year (chaithra shukla navami). The star on the day he was born is punarvasu. We celebrate Jewel of the day: Ra:ma's birthday on the day with navami (in month of Chaithra , growing phase of moon) and punarvasu star and make sure that even bit of ashtami is not remaining on that day. Heartening to see some very detailed explanation from some of the devotees !! Usually, Sri Ra:ma Navami falls on the 9th day from Uga:di, for those following lunar calendar. This year, Sri Ra:ma Navami is on 26th March. Due to variations in the rules for determining the Sri Ra:ma Navami day, for some traditions, Sri Ra:ma Navami falls on 25th March this year. For Sri Vaishnavas in TamilNadu (e.g. Srirangam and Kanchipuram temples), Sri Ra:ma Navami this year falls on April 24, as the solar calendar is followed there, and new year is on April 14th. Lord Na:rayana took the form of a human being in the Ra:ma avata:ra. He is described as having many exemplary qualities and comes close to an example of an uttama purusha or an exalted human being. Uga:di to Ra:ma Navami is celebrated as Vasantha Navara:tri and many people do Ra:mayana Pa:rayanam or Sundara Ka:nda Pa:rayanam. |
