Note : Jai Sriman Narayana

Brahma saw his creator Lord Srimannarayana after he was born and requested Him to grace him a replica or murti in the form that he saw the Lord first. Srimannarayana gave him the very first archa: murti to which Brahma performed daily puja. King Ikshwa:ku performed tapas for many years and got this archa: murti to Ayodhya and performed daily rituals. The murti was passed down the generations of Surya dynasty kings till Rama as their 'kula dhanam'. Rama then gifted it to Vibheeshana as a parting gift after his coronation in Ayodhya. However, when Vibhishana was taking the image to Lanka (modern-day Sri Lanka), he stopped en-route on the banks of the Kaveri to bathe at Srirangam, and thereafter the deity wished to dwell there itself. To make Vibheeshana happy, Lord Ranganatha gave a boon that He will face south from here always, as if watching over Lanka.

We are fortunate to have the first ever archa: murti with us in Sri Rangam. That is why we do mangala:sa:nam everyday to Srirangam too - "Sri:ranga sri:scha vardhata:m"

Telugu new year ""Uga:di"" starts on Chaitra Sudha Pa:dyami.

In the Indian calendar, there are 60 names for years. First year is prabhava, second year is vibhava, third year is shukla and so on till the 60th year, with is akshaya. After 60 years are over, the names repeat again. Last year was he:vilambi. The new year starting now is vilambi. The year in which Lord Rama was born was also vilambi. Lord Ranganatha descended as Archa:murthi to earth to Ikshvaku on this day. Hence in Sri rangam, this day is celebrated in a grand manner. Listen more @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0RSgw5xmC8
