Once you start, you can’t stop. We hear this kind of advertisements or expressions about foods such as pringles chips, pani puri etc. However, can one continuously have them? We lose interest after a point. Some things may become unhealthy after a point.
It seems there is ‘something’ that is harmless and bestows health for one on all levels no matter how much you have it. You don’t lose interest, it is insatiable in nature. You cannot have enough of it despite however much we have it.
a:ra:vamuda
the insatiable nectar
Acharya Na:thamuni heard the expression a:ra:vamuda, the insatiable nectar, being referred to for Lord Srimannarayana. He was immensely mesmerized by the expression and traveled for months enquiring about who gave such divine expression.
He was told that if he sang kanninum siruttha:mbu, composed by Madhurakavi a:lwar, he could attain the grace of Namma:lwa:r who used the divine expression, a:ra:vamuda. He succeeded and was blessed by Namma:lwa:r with Na:layira divya prabanda, 4000 verses composed by 12 a:lwars.
The great acharya Na:thamuni Swami is the founder of bhakthi movement, the fountain-head source of all beauty of the Vedic literature. His knowledge on Vedic literature was brought into life when Nammalwar through the form of deity, blessed him with Nalayira divya prabandha, 4000 verses of all the 12 alwars. Jna:na, knowledge must ripen to become bhakthi, devotion. That is what Nammalwar’s blessing did to Nathamuni.
Acharya Na:thamuni is the grandfather of Yamuncharya Swami. Yamuncharya Swami is the indirect Guru of Ramanujacharya. Such great lineage of acharyas with the blessings of a:lwars kept the beauty of Vedic literature intact for the entire world to benefit from.

Definitions for terms from the teachings of acharya Na:thamuni
- Bhakthi is the incessant love for Lord resulting from jna:na that ‘I am for Lord. His joy is my ultimate goal’
- Karma is that action resulting from the force of bhakthi. This action pleases the Lord or is the instruction of the Lord. One constantly looks for instructions from Lord one after another asking Lord, kim karava:ni (seeking next instruction/task from Lord), and thus he is called kinkara. Such karma is called kainkarya.
- Divyam is that which is untouched by and does not bind one to anything in the world – like lotus in muddy water. Lord Krushna in Bhagavad Githa says, janma karma cha me: divyam.
“I take birth, I take up actions, but when I do them, they are divyam – untouched by ka:rmic records” - Achinthya is that which is experienceable but cannot be described in words.
