A lot of the people have a slightly misconceived notion that Vedic way of life restricts one from earning money. While Vedantha speaks of the ultimate purpose of life that does not involve money, the ultimate purpose of life does not imply abstinence from earning.

Attharhva Veda says…
sathahastham sama:hara…
earn with Hundred hands, but spend it with thousand hands

While earning requires hard work and determination, how we choose to spend our money can have an even greater impact. Direct your wealth to those in need and causes that matter, multiplying the good you can do in the world.

We’re all familiar with this concept when it comes to water. Governments invest in building dams and channeling water to the right areas, ensuring it reaches the land where it can help farmers make their fields more productive.

How do we plan the spending?

Set aside 1% of either your earnings or your spending—whichever is higher—and dedicate it to causes that truly matter. Use your knowledge and understanding to evaluate and outline key parameters of these causes, such as: the ultimate goal, the beneficiaries, the methods or models of implementation, and the long-term impact of the solution.

So, earn with a hundred hands, but spend it on causes that matter.
