Scorching heat is already on its way. Schools are closed, people are working indoors. When it comes to God, there are no indoors and outdoors for Him. He has been constantly on the job to rescue us, teach us, and help us through the ups and downs of such changes in nature (in and out).
However, the scriptures show a beautiful way to serve Him (accessible to us in Deity form) in this spring season by offering various cooling agents such as jasmine flowers, turmeric, sandalwood paste etc. Priests offer any service which reduces the heat around the Deity, such as taking Him on a tour under the shade of trees in the evenings, swinging Him in a cradle rhythmically with slow movements etc. All such services are offered to the Deities in temples during this spring season, the vasantha ruthuvu. And hence, this festival is called, Vasantha Uthsavam.
Remember that any service we offer to God aids us, not Him. It is an opportunity for us to come out of the mundane physical activities that we do for the sake of food and pleasure, and indulge in God’s thatva that is permanent and blissful. Ultimately, participating in such services and truly believing in God enhances our abilities, our attitude and our joy. It enables us to spread the joy by sharing and caring all those in need of God’s compassion.
