Everyone dreams of becoming a successful “hero” in one’s own field of interest! A sense of completeness is achieved when dreams are fulfilled. Feeling complete/full in all aspects is called pu:rnam.
God is pu:rnam because He is complete in every aspect. His dream is this entire existence! Vedas say that He dreamt of creating this existence, “so: ka:mayatha: bahusya:m praja: ye:ye:thi” and put it into action. He used Vedas as a manual, “ve:da sabde:bhya ey: va:dau de:va:di:nam chaka:ra saha“. I:sa:va:sya Upanishad describes pu:rnatvam, God’s quality of being full in ALL aspects.
We also dream to be pu:rna in our own scope. That’s when we can be a “hero” in our own field of interest.
How do I achieve completeness (pu:rnatvam) in my field of interest?
There are three categories of achievements…
First category relates to seeking material possessions (more money, a higher position, bigger house/car, etc)
Second category relates to seeking self-consciousness (thinking beyond materials and seeking success in realizing the true nature of self)
Third category relates to seeking God-consciousness (thinking beyond materials and self; looking at the bigger picture; actualizing the supreme soul, God)
To achieve it all, the pu:rnam (the full package) is about the union with God, actualizing Him in all respects, His form (swaru:pa), His figure/posture (ru:pa), His qualities (guna), His vast nature (vibhava).
This is called pu:rnam because it automatically encompasses everything in it (including the satisfaction that comes with the first two achievements because you will become a highly capable soul) If you are a seeker of ‘pu:rnam’, you have a proven guide to getting there. Meditating is the first step for attaining anything, including this. It has the immense power to uplift one from being a zero (su:nyam) to a hero (pu:rnam)
Can one simply achieve everything through meditation?
Meditation (to deeply think/reflect) on a relavant mantra establishes a firm desire for the goal (pu:rnatha or any other) in your mind. Unless your mind has fixed itself on the goal, the body will not cooperate to its maximum extent. That is why meditation is a crucial step.
Meditate on the first mantra that describes the pu:rnatvam of God. The mantra describes the five abodes/forms that God exists in all glory! The five abodes are:
O:m pu:rnam idam pu:rnam adaha pu:rna:th pu:rna mudachyathe: |
pu:rnasya pu:rnam a:da:ya pu:rnam e:vavasishyathe: O:m ||
- para (eternal abode with all His eternal companions – nityas and liberated souls – mukthas),
- vyu:ha (in planning abode to dissolve, create and support the existence through Vasudeva, Sankarshana, Pradyumna, Aniruddha forms),
- vibhava/avataras (as incarnations like Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha, Rama, Krishna, Venkateswara),
- antarya:mi (within yourself and every other soul),
- archa: vigraha (deity form based on avataras of God in temples and your pu:ja mandirs at home).
Which of the Five forms do I worship?
Out of all the five forms, the archa: vigraha form (Deity form) is KNOWN, VISIBLE, and REACHABLE. One should always aim at known, visible, and reachable goal. Remember that all the five forms of God are pu:rnam, equally omnipotent (powerful) and omniscient (knowing everything)
para
This form is like moisture that exists everywhere but not fit to quench your thirst at the moment.
vyu:ha
This form is like water in the clouds. It’s not in a format to quench the thirst
vibhava/avataras
This form is like rain water. You can’t expect it to rain when you are thirsty.
antarya:mi
This form is like ground water. It requires effort and tools to quench the thirst.
archa: vigraha
This form is like the water kept aside right at your home using the other sources of water. It can quench your thirst immediately.

Namasthe
Excellent understanding for lay men
Great analogies. It helps a lot to have a proper understanding.
Thanks for sharing it with us.
JSMN, It appears the moisture every where in the atmosphere was given for Antaryami and ground water analogy was given for “Para” abode. Dear Admin, can you check. Thank you for the summary post with pictures. Appreciate your effort and useful for our Prajna kids.
Jai Srimannarayana Raghuram ji,
We checked. Moisture analogy is given for Para form. Groundwater analogy is given for Antaryami. Whatever is in the article is correct. Thank you for the feedback.
