Jai Srimannarayana!!
Below are some useful FAQs for your reference
Let’s say a child goes out with his friends and soils himself during the play. After reaching home, he takes a shower and cleans himself up for the next task – dinner or sleep etc! Here, ‘cleaning up’ is considered becoming ‘qualified’ for next task. The child would have been qualified for dinner if he had not soiled himself. But, because he got soiled – he will need to clean himself up.
Samasrayanam, also known as “Mantra Initiation” or “Pancha Samskaram” is taken out of faith in the Sasthras and in the lineage of our acharyas, brought to light by Jagadacharya Bhagavad Ramanuja.
One will be given 3 Mantras by Acharya (Narayana Ashtakshari Maha Mantram, Dvaya Mantram, Charama Slokam)
Pancha Samskaram involves 5 important Vedic techniques for overall upliftment of the soul.
The process burns the effects of karmas of the past, protects from future janmas, reduces the effects of karmas of current janma thereby making the soul pure and eligible for Serving all beings as Service to God.
After Samasrayanam it is up to us how we lead our life & upkeep our soul.
Samasrayanam is a 5-technique Vedic process, usually done in the morning.
The whole process will last for about 2 to 3 hours after which you can take prasadam.
Until the process is completed one cannot eat or drink anything that day.
Anybody who is willing to get uplifted from current state of life to a pure state is considered eligible.
Men or Women should not be in the state of impurity. (like 10 nights of birth or death or periods time etc)
On the previous night, one needs to do upavasam (no food, only water allowed).
If that is not possible due to any reason (like health etc), one should have light vegetarian-only snack (like idli/upma etc).
The following day, the day of Samasrayanam, one should take head bath, wear traditional clothes:
Men – Traditional pancha & uttareeyam/kanduva;
Women – Traditional saree;
Male kid – Small pancha & uttareeyam/kanduva;
Girl kid – Traditional ethnic dress.
One should abstain from food/water on Samasrayanam day, until the whole process is completed (which should take about 2 to 3 hours).
