Sri Sudarshana Sathakam is composed by Sri Koora Narayana Jeeyar. It was sung to seek the grace of Sri Sudarshana, the divine weapon embodiment of Lord Vishnu. The intent was to relieve a devotee, Sri Thiruvaranga Iyer, from the pain of a deadly disease. As a result, he was completely relieved from the pain and the disease. The sincere wish that Sri Koora Narayana Jeeyar felt for the devotee was so intense that the prayer he sang carried within it the power to destroy the cause of the devotee’s pain.
Does a weapon function by itself?
In a common scenario, a weapon does not function independently. However, we are seeking the grace of the divine discus, Sudarshana Chakra, in the hands of supreme power. The mere wish of God grants super power to even a grass blade. Thus, it is the power of God that works through His weapons.
Today, as the world mourns the pain of our fellow beings, Sudarshana Homam is being performed daily along with chanting Sudarshana Satahakam.
Sri Chinna Swamiji says, “One should always sing in praise and love for God. We need not ask God to look after us, because His very nature is to protect all beings. However, prayers such as these give us an opportunity to seek the grace of Lord’s devotees to help us gain enough strength to handle difficult situations with valour and wisdom.”
How can we take part in this prayer?
If you are in the vicinity of Nadigaddepalem Ashram, you can take part in the homam by visiting the ashram in the morning to chant or listen to the prayer. If not, you can take part in the prayer by connecting to the event in your manas, your heart. There are several ways to contribute, including chanting this prayer, donating to the event, spreading the message, and doing good in your local community for those in need.
