What did Arjuna do to see God’s viswaru:p, the magnificent universal form?

Did he chant or study Vedas?
Did he perform severe penance?

Did he donate a lot?
Did he worship or perform any ritual?

No! God’s universal form did not appear in front of him because of any of these! Sri Krushna gave Arjuna the eyes that can show him His universal form when He wanted to show It to him.

Just like the Sun becomes visible to you only when it appears and not because you did something to cause its appearance, God also appears when He wants to show Himself to you not because you ‘did’ something for it.

So, I don’t need to ‘do’ anything to see Him. It’s not possible to see Him, right?

No! It is possible.

You need to do something that Arjuna did. What Arjuna did was turn on a ‘green signal’ that prepared+allowed him to see God’s visible form when God chose to ‘show Himself’ to Arjuna.

What does it mean to turn on the green signal?

Turning on the green signal is to make yourself ready to accept Him when He arrives to grace you. Anything you do in terms of prayer, learning or devoted service are never a means to bring God to you. However, they make you ready to accept Him when He ‘arrives’ to grace you. Staying passive in doing recommended activities is akin to putting on a ‘redsignal. It blocks you from accepting God’s grace.

A:gama scriptures recommend prathishta, consecration of Lord’s deity followed by kalyana, the divine union of Lord and Universal Mother to give a community the best way to benefit from God’s presence amidst them. The scriptures recommend that the scholars, pundits perform this procedure to turn on the ‘green’ signal – i.e. express gratitude, readiness, devotion towards God for humbly seeking His presence in the deity form.

Once God becomes accessible through deity form in a temple or at your home, anything you offer in service to Him – a flower, a fruit, a garland will all turn into prasa:d, a container carrying His grace to you so that your rajo: guna and thamo: guna are subsided and sattva guna enhances… It enables good conduct that benefits you and the community. It allows you to see God and experience His grace!

Thus… nothing you do can act as a means to see God but you must do recommended things to prepare yourselves and be ready to see Him when He shows Himself to you! Otherwise, you will be creating yourself a blocker to seeing God and experiencing His grace.
