What medicine do you take when you have a bad headache? A paracetamol?
What is headache? It is an effect. There is something else that is causing it. The cause could be one of the following or something else: head dipped into water, exposed to a strong heat wave, indigestion, mental torture or agony that he had created himself over something undesirable.
Paracetamol works on the effect and not on the underlying cause. Homeopaths believe in treating the cause. Hence, they deal with the one who is diseased and not the disease.
Why is cause important?
Cause is important. Let’s take cooking a dish as example. When you cook something in a clay pot (a cause), the taste (an effect) differs from when you cook something in a brass pot (a cause).
The material in which something is being cooked plays a key role. If you use wood of a neem tree [a cause] to burn fire for the stove, the resulting dish has a different flavor [an effect] and texture [an effect] compared to if you use a banyan or tamarind tree. Now, the way [a cause] you have the food or the timing [a cause] and the portions [a cause]- all of these matter to give the effect of the food on you.
Homeopaths study that entire history and thus have an understanding of the cause for the effect.
Isn’t it better to nourish the roots to take care of the tree? Hence study of the cause and treatment at the root cause level is important.
How can anyone treat the cause that they cannot ‘see’?
Imagine you are asked to show your hunger as a mandatory prerequisite before you are given food. The task is to show the length, texture and all details of hunger. Is that the right thing to expect from you?
Similarly, it is not the right thing to expect from Homeopaths because their study is not just about the visible aspects of a person, but also the invisible aspects such as life force, sensory organs, feelings, mind, intellect, spirit. One cannot show invisible aspects in a laboratory. Homeopathy is not limited to being science but is more of a philosophy.
How does Homeopathy work?
It identifies the cause through a study of the one who is not at ease. It tries to understand whether the condition is functional or structural. Accordingly, a suitable remedy and the right potency of the remedy is advised.
