Everyone fears death, a common man or a distinguished person. Death is anyway inevitable, what is the best way to overcome the fear of death?

Let’s look at a simple example. If a person is well-prepared for an exam and has written it well, will the person await or fear for the results? The person will welcome and wait for the results. Doesn’t he?

Similarly, if you do what you should do whilst in the human body, you will not fear death but will welcome and await it whenever it is due. You will be called kruthakruthya, one who has done what he should do.

What should you do while in the human body?

Firstly, realize that you are different from the body. Know the purpose of your existence in this human body. An individual soul is entered in a body to exhaust a portion of its karma. Human body comes with the unique opportunity for the soul to not only exhaust current portion but also exhaust the entire backlog of karma accumulated over in the past lives.

Example: Let’s say that a soul is entered in a human body to experience 0.001 unit out of the total backlog of 1452 units of karma. If the soul (i.e. you, me or anyone) behaves as expected, the total 1452 units of karma will be exhausted and the soul will attain eternal joy.

All bodies such as the body of a fly, cat, or tree etc, it’s very difficult to exhaust the backlog of karma because of the body type and its abilities.

listen about eternal truths again and again; contemplate and revise; understand how you are connected with everything; meditate in depth such that you can ‘see’ the eternal truths and behave accordingly

you will attain eternity after death

What are the key learnings of eternal truths?

SriRamayanam is the nidhi, treasure containing all the essential learnings. Bhagavan descended in four forms not only to teach us theoretically but also show practically the way to lead human life in order to become a kruthakruthya.

athma:na:m chathurdhya: vibhajya

In the form of Rama, He depicted to us how one must fulfill the responsibilities that come with the body.
In the forms of Bharatha, Lakshmana and Sathrujna, He depicted to us the nature of soul; what and how one’s manas must think while the body fulfills the responsibilities.

Like you can speak with your mouth while you see something with your eyes, your body and manas can behave as per their thatthva and attain the purpose of life.

Is there an example of how the body and manas should work?

Rama practiced sari:ra dharma of following his father’s wish and left for the forests peacefully. Lakshmana showed us a:thma dharma when he asked  the Sumantra to convey the following to Dasaratha…

bhra:tha bandhuscha ptha:cha mama ra:ghava
aham thva:n maha:ra:je: pithruthvam no:pa lakshaye:

Rama is my brother, relative, father and everything. The king (Dasarattha) is filled with ahambha:vam, thinking that he is none other than the body and I don’t see him as my father!

Rama practiced sari:ra dharma of following his step mother’s wish. Whereas Bharatha practiced a:thma dharma when he said the following to his mother…

“If Rama did not accept you as mother, I would have killed you.”

Bharatha and Lakshmana here depict the eternal a:thma sambandha with parama:thma (Rama). This is how a manas should think of the the happenings while the body fulfils the responsibilities. You will not be attached with the happenings as if they are for you, by you and because of you. That will keep you away from accumulating any further karma. Your manas is in continual attachment with God. Remember that the body must continue to do its work. When this is in flow, you can be assured that you are a kruthakruthya, i.e. you are doing what you should be. Now, it does not matter if the death is awaiting your door next minute or in the next decade, it shouldn’t bother you but you can await whenever it is due. In current life, you can be at peace and happy. While post the natural death, it is nothing but joyful eternity.
