Did you know that Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji consecrated one of the 108 Rama Sthupas (pillars) in Kashmir? The pillar was built and positioned in Durga Nag of Srinagar with utmost reverence to Sri Rama Chandra. Karan Singh, the ex-ruler of Kashmir invited Swamiji to perform Rama Krathu (a 27 day event that included Ramayan chanting in the morning, and working for the benefit of the people in the place of chanting). Several people would invite Swamiji to their places for such noble act. These krathus were being conducting throughout the nation by Swamiji. Learning from the life style of a great person is equivalent to reading hundreds of personality development books. Today, lets take an opportunity to remember the JEEYAR of the nation (while there were and are many Jeeyars, it was Swamiji who first showed to the nation that a Jeeyar need not restrict his scope of work, and that one must reach out to everyone). Swamiji had quite a captivating personality and charm. People of even rajasik (arrogant and restless) and tamasik (lazy and laid back) nature were drawn to him. The ease with which he conducted several programs amazed everyone.

Annangaracharya Swami asked Gopalacharya Swami (a great scholar and a constant companion to Swamiji):

Where does Pedda Jeeyar Swamij get funds to conduct such events?

Gopalacharya Swami laughed and said, ‘Swamiji never collects money prior to beginning an event. He submits his thought at the lotus feet of His deity, Sri Rama Chandra. Later, he announces it with people around him. He works for it in full course. The event just materialises and concludes successfully.

How are you both getting along well for all these years, despite being very different?

We try to work out our differences like a matured couple. When one is angry or upset, the other stays cool and composed. It is beautiful to accept the difference of opinion and evaluate the best out of the two approaches peacefully.

Any closed-doors incident that shows Swamiji’s nature?

Humm, Sure. It was an event at a temple. Boorelu, a traditional Indian dessert was ready as an offering to God. A priest could not resist but slip one into his mouth before it was offered to God. Someone noticed it and managed to not use it in offering. Instead, some other dish was offered. Swamiji came to know about it. The next day, Swamiji got two full baskets of the same dessert made and delivered them to the priest’s door. The priest felt so ashamed to face Swamiji. He somehow gathered the courage to show up and apologise. Swamiji has such special way of teaching depending on the circumstance

Thousands of devotees poured in to celebrate the after-life of Sri Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji. Hundreds of scholars and lakhs of common men and women were motivated by Swamiji. Swamiji did not think a second to give away acres of land he owned for those in need, the Harizans. He did not wait for consensus when it came to correcting wrong-doers. He did not mind 24 by 7 work 365 days. His knowledge in spirituality made Him contribute to the society at levels that are deeply rooted till date in most southern states of the nation! Let’s bow down to that great soul and humbly fold hands for being a great torch bearer.
