Gunathraya Vibha:ga Yo:gaha, verse 3

Ramanujacharya’s commentary on Bhagavad Githa is called Githa Bhashyam. Today, there are innumerable commentaries on Githa. However, Githa Bhashyam is unique because it is absolutely apt to the heart of Sri Krushna. When you read the commentaries of a verse in context with the pre and post verses of the chapter, you will realize how appropriate Ramanujacharya’s commentary is.

There are several meanings to a word. Unless one understands the verse as per the context, the exact meaning of the word cannot be expressed. Ramanujacharya’s commentary blesses us with the right flavor of meaning and gives us an opportunity to understand the heart of Sri Krushna.

mama yo:nir mahadbramha thasmin garbham dadha:myaham

Yo:ni means cause. Mahadbramha means prakruthi, Nature.

I [Sri Krushna] enable the souls to enter Nature, an appropriate portion of the Nature becomes their body in accordance with their karma, records of past actions.

Sri Krushna is anuja, brother of Bala‘Rama’. Hence, interesting, He is also Ramanuja [Rama+anuja = Rama:nuja].

An acharya bestows the world with jna:na, knowledge through the divine teachings capsulized in the form of scriptures. One such great scripture is Githa Bhashyam. Let’s all take the first step to learning it by first memorizing the verses of Githa and familiarizing with the words. Parallelly, we can try to understand the commentary too.

Let’s recollect how we organised a mega event named Githa Jyothi in the year 2002-2003 which ran for 2 whole years. We made charts to support our personality development listing about 26 qualities from the 13th chapter and two more charts from the 12th and 16th chapters. In the 23 districts back then, we grouped 108 villages under 1 Dharmakshethra. Vikasa Tarangini, our service organisation volunteers mobilised 1700 Dharmakshethras. That is 1,83,600 villages participated in the event. That was the beginning, let’s take it forward now…

Let’s all prepare to recite the 700 verses of Bhagavad Githa in one voice and in the same tune by the first Bramhotsavam (first annual event of the consecration) of the Samatha Murthi Sphoorthi Kendra, the Statue of Equality. Let the knowledge of Githa become the energy that lights up our lives by driving away any kind of darkness…
