Sage Valmiki did not say Rama ruled the kingdom for 11,000 years, he said that Rama performed upa:sana on the ra:jya, the kingdom.

dasavarsha sahasra:ni dasa varsha satha:nicha ra:mo: ra:jyam upa:sithva:

Upa:sana is the continuous stream of thoughts leading to actions driven out of love for someone with the sole objective of keeping them happy. It is not something one does out of anger, disappointment or dissatisfaction, it is out of love…

It was therefore said that Rama did not rule but he actually did upa:sana, meaning he was completely devoted to serving the people and every life in the kingdom. His concern was only the well-being of the people. If they cried, He cried more and did everything that would alleviate him from that pain. If they smiled, He was happier than them and did everything that would preserve it for them.

Devathas, the administrative forces of the supreme power Lord Srimannarayana, reminded Sri Ramachandra that He was none other than Lord Srimannarayana and that mother Sitha is none other than mother Mahalakshmi. However, Rama wanted to demonstrate to each one of us that when one leads the life of a true human being, everyone including devathas will bow down and worship to that human being.

Why does universal power take the form of a human being?

The universal power comes down and accepts a form by will to protect people like us who have fallen down out of compassion.

For the same reason, Lord who is not limited by form, by name, ‘weapons’, or any reason chooses to take a form, accept a name, use a weapon or a reason just so He can support, protect and help those who seek Him.
