Every year, lakhs of people across the world worship mother Go:da on Her appearance day (Sra:vana month, pu:rva phalguni star and karkata ra:si) and during Dhanurma:sa (Dhanu month as per solar calendar, mid-December to mid-January as per Gregorian calendar). No other culture or philosophy extols feminine power to this level of worship. Ve:dic texts glorify characteristics of the supreme feminine power as the source of compassion (daya), love (pr:ema), kindness (krupa), and  forgiveness (kshama).

Go:da De:vi is an incarnation of the two prime supreme feminine powers, Mother Lakshmi and Bhu:de:vi. She appeared in a Vishnu Chiththa‘s thulasi garden during Kali Yuga’s 93rd year, named Nala. Out of love for Lord, She composed 30 songs (thiruppa:vai) and 143 songs (Na:cchi:ya:r Thiruva:ymuji) which became the source of all knowledge (resulting in devotion) for a blissful union with God.

Why is she considered an incarnation of Mother Lakshmi and Bhudevi?

Mother Lakshmi notices one’s sins. Even then, she exhibits extreme daya by recommending us to seek God’s forgiveness, via good practices…

Mother Bhu:de:vi does not even want to notice one’s sins. She exhibits extreme kshama, compassion, requesting God to forgive everyone unquestionably.

Mother Go:da has both qualities, daya and kshama. She notices sins but wants to forgive everyone unquestionably.

The second song in Her composition poses two questions…

vayyaththu va:lvi:rga:l
Are you living on this earth?
Are you seeking true happiness?

If so, you are eligible to attain everlasting joy. You are eligible to understand the source of all joy, the means to liberate yourself from any hardship

Self-check: Is your answer Yes to both the questions!?

Driven by daya and kshama for all of us, A:nda:l De:vi gave us the path to wisdom, joy, and success in the most beautiful literary composition ever produced. This path can be used by any seeker for goal ranging from the simplest daily targets to life’s ultimate purpose

She proved God’s accessibility in Deity form. Lakhs of people celebrate Her beautiful journey as a seeker to the universal mother, and worship Her to seek Her blessings.

She stands as an inspiration to great a:cha:ryas like Ra:ma:nuja:cha:rya, the greatest philosopher, social reformer, and theologian. She is as an inspiration to great kings like Krishnade:vara:ya, the Vijayanagara Emperor in early 16th century, in who composed an epic poem on mother Go:da, named, A:mukthama:lyada.

We pay our obeisances to this great feminine power, Mother Go:da, expressing our gratitude and ‘birthday’ wishes on Pu:rva Phalguni star in Sra:vana month.
