As we know, the Global Positioning System (GPS), owned by the U.S. government, serves various purposes—defense, civil, and commercial. It contains three segments – space segment, control segment and user segment. Using the three segments, it provides directions and time to reach a destination for a common user.

There is another type of GPS—the Timeless Vedic GPS, maintained by practitioners of Vedic wisdom. Unlike the modern GPS, this system does not track location and time relative to latitude and longitude of the Earth. Instead, it offers a reflection on the vastness of creation, illustrating the relative position and time-frame of all things at a given moment.

How do I use this Timeless Vedic GPS?

The Timeless Vedic GPS is primarily used by Vedic practitioners during sacred rituals, such as chanting sankalpa (divine resolve) during a yaga, ishti, or any event where they invite the Lord. The sankalpa consists of three key elements: location, time, and purpose, followed by a declaration of the activity about to be performed.

Before making the resolve to carry out a divine activity, the prayer begins by realizing who God is and His nature. This is achieved by chanting and reflecting on three divine names:

Achyuta – the one who never leaves us

Ananta – the one who is present everywhere

Govinda – the one who is our protector and grants us the energy to perform righteous actions.

Then, begins the purification of our bodies. Since God is omnipresent, He resides within each of us, making every person a mobile temple. As part of this purification, practitioners chant the 12 names of God, touching each major organ of the body, symbolizing all services done through them are His.

Om Kesavaya Namaḥa
Om Narayaṇaya Namaḥa
… and so on.

Thus, we realize our bodies to act only as instruments of God, not dumping unwanted ‘garbage’ into it.

After this, the sankalpa is chanted, and the raksha kankana (a protective thread, invoking Mother Lakshmi to help us overcome any obstacles during the event) is tied around the wrist.

Sudarshana Ishti begins. Chanting the powerful Sudarshana Kavacham allows practitioners to seek the grace of Sudarshana, the leader of God’s weapons. Sudarshana has the divine ability to bring joy and bliss, just as He is in the service of God, making us equally delightful and happy.

The Vedic way of life encourages us to connect every activity to the ultimate source of creation—Lord Narayana.

ultimate purpose of life

when practiced with sincerity, it serves as a guiding force, keeping our internal GPS aligned with the ultimate purpose of life and contributing to the holistic well-being of every being in existence.
