What does true wealth mean to you? Is it material riches, good health, or something deeper and more profound? The concept of wealth goes beyond possessions, and in this new year, we are invited to reflect on the greatest kind of wealth that we should aspire to.
When the cycle of the planetary system moves in a specific way, influencing nature, creatures, and especially human beings, each year is assigned a specific name, carrying its own significance. Vishwavasu is the name of the new year that commenced on 30th Mar 2025, as per the Lunar calendar.
Vasu means wealth
Viswa means entire universe
Therefore, Viswavasu signifies wealth for the entire universe
What is the greatest wealth that we should seek?
There are two types of great wealth that we should work for, wish for and pray for.
Sage parasara said,
vichithra:ya de:ha sampatthi i:shwara:ya nive:ditham
The word de:ha refers to the body in which the soul resides. This body is an incredible wealth meant to be dedicated to I:shwara, the supreme controller of the universe.

If one does not have properly functioning limbs, a healthy heart, or a sound mind, it becomes difficult to work at one’s fullest potential. Therefore, a healthy body is, indeed, a great wealth.
The second type of great wealth is the company of good people—those who will encourage you to do the right things, even offering a firm slap when you’re straying from the right path. These are the people with whom you can truly share your life. They will share their sorrows with you and allow you to share your happiness with them.

This mutual exchange of support, guidance, and joy is what truly enriches life. It’s not about taking from others but about giving and receiving in harmony.
It is said that even God does not wish to be alone. He always seeks the company of bhakthas and bhagavathoththamas.
As the Veda says…
bhakthaihi bha:gavathaissaha a:sthe vishnuhu
achinthya:thma vaikunte:th pare: lo:ke:

In essence, these two forms of wealth — a healthy body and meaningful relationships — form the foundation for a fulfilling life. They are not only essential for well-being in this world but also support you in attaining the ultimate purpose of life: liberation from the bondage of karma.
If you do not enjoy sound health or good company, don’t worry. Trust in God, karma takes a back seat… Here’s how!
So, let us all trust in God, follow the guidance of good knowledge as shared in Vedic literature. Gradually, we will sail through the time in this year of Viswavasu in safe hands with all types of great wealth for all…
