Jai Srimannarayana!
On the morning of March 29, 2025, following Thirtha Goshti, a Maha Sudarshana Yagam was conducted at Rama Krishna Mandir, Austral, in the suburbs of Sydney, marking the eve of the Telugu New Year according to the Lunar Calendar. The event was followed by a certification ceremony and a Q&A session for Prajna students.
During the discourse, HH Swamiji enlightened devotees about the significance of Lord Sudarshana, explaining that this sacred yagam was performed to bid farewell to Krodhi and welcome the Telugu New Year, Visvavasu. Swamiji also elaborated on the Solar and Lunar calendars, shedding light on their calculations.

The Solar Calendar is based on the Sun’s transition across the zodiac signs (Rasis), with each transition known as Sankramanam. Though there are 12 Sankramanams in a year, we widely celebrate only two:
-
Makara Sankramanam (Sankranti) – marking the entry into Uttarayanam (northward movement of the Sun).
-
Karkataka Sankramanam – marking the entry into Dakshinayanam (southward movement of the Sun).

The Lunar Calendar is based on the Moon’s position, where the month’s name is determined by the star (Nakshatra) the Moon aligns with on Pournami (Full Moon Day). The upcoming Chaithra Masa derives its name from the Moon’s presence in the Chitra Nakshatra on Pournami. Since Telugu people follow the Lunar Calendar, Ugadi falls on March 30 this year.
Performing the Sudarshana Homam is believed to remove negativity, enhance divine vision, and inspire selfless service to society. With Swamiji’s guidance, devotees took part in the homam, understanding its deeper spiritual significance.
Following the Purnahuti, a Prajna session was led by AUS National Prajna Coordinator, Sriman Murali Garu. The event concluded with Swamiji answering the enthusiastic students’ questions and blessing them with certificates for their achievements in the Prajna Year 2024.
