Like any other day, I was reading the daily newspaper after a quick workout. I overheard the voice of a spiritual guru playing on my wife’s phone. That surprised me. She is generally always occupied in listening to Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji and not any other gurus. So, I asked, “Is it interesting to see another perspective?”

She answered, “Well, I got the weekly digest email from Quora which had a reference to a video titled – My, God – there is no God. Wondered what made that guru say it, so I was watching it. I asked her,

How would you distinguish between Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji and all other such famous gurus in the world?”

She responded, “It’s the lineage of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji that marks the first difference. He belongs to the lineage that originates at the source of the existence. He teaches, and practises only that which is purely in-line with Vedic wisdom. It is said that – Even if God takes a human form, He leads a life in accordance with the ultimate wisdom that governs the existence, the Vedas.
(It’s analogous to the founder of chess game playing it with no deviation from the rules of the game). When one holds onto the roots of wisdom through such lineage, there will be no room for distortion, misinterpretation or deviation from the original source!”

I further questioned, “Are the others deviating from the original source of wisdom? If so, why is there so much following? What is drawing people to such gurus who do not mention Vedas and do not make connection to ancient history, deity worship etc”

She answered, “I watched a few videos of all the famous gurus. There is not a single statement they made which doesn’t have the roots of wisdom in Vedas. They do not mention Vedas probably because people are looking for something that originates in a human mind instead of a scripture. They pick a certain aspect of the wisdom, add strategy to it so that it becomes easy for people of the current generation to understand. Example: Another guru has a program named Surya Kriya. Our ancient scriptures talk about ‘Aditya Hrudayam’. They worshipped the power of Sun with gratitude, and realized the source of that power to be God Himself. Now, one can simply stop at the power of Sun (forget the source to be God), meditate upon the power, add a routine to help the body focus on the energy and feel empowered. That’s okay.

What’s important is that the source of all such wisdom comes from Vedas. However, not everybody has the comprehensive understanding and deep insight into the entirety of Vedas. Therefore, there is room for deviation, distortion and misinterpretation. Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji is one such acharya who does not deviate from the norms of his gurus. His lifestyle is tied to the roots of ancient gurus and rushis who preserved the sanctity of wisdom as it is originally revealed. Therefore, the comprehensiveness and the depth are completely in-tact.”

I challenged her, “How can you be sure that Vedas are the source of all wisdom? Why can’t anyone in these days become as wise as Vedas or more without the help of Vedic scriptures or other gurus?”

She responded, “We can continue to discuss on this. But, lets do something practically. Take anything that any of these gurus say. You will notice that every aspect is detailed in Vedas. It can even be atheism, yoga, meditation or anything against deity worship. It can even be self-realisation/self-empowerment – a lot of the gurus these days focus on empowering self; therefore, most people are drawn into them. After all, who wouldn’t want to be powerful than what they are now?

However, The real and complete empowerment comes in when you realise your limitations and take it as a opportunity to connect with the one who is beyond these limitations. That’s when you become fully empowered, like the courage of a child sitting in her mother’s lap or the pride in a child’s face being held by his father!

Life is filled with gratitude to Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji for enabling a discussion such as above between me and my wife. Such wisdom continues to help us in working out our differences, guiding us towards the goal while balancing the routines at home. Would appreciate it if this is shared with rest of our friends through Swamij’s website. Because I feel like if me and my wife are having this discussion, may be someone else in the world also will connect to it. May be there are similar questions, similar thoughts running across other minds…
