The proper teacher, a guru, holds a very special place in the heart of an inspired student.  The student, or sishya, has certain qualifications just as the guru does.

These qualifications are displayed to the world by God Himself when He first appeared in Badarinath, the hills of the Himalayas, as Nara and Narayana.  Nara is the amsa-avatar, divinity expressed in one aspect as the sishya.  Narayana is God Himself, expressing his form as the guru.  God took birth in this twin form as Nara and Narayana to the blessed souls, Dharma Praja:pathi and Murthi.  God, in the form of these supreme twins, displayed to the entire existence the highest form of knowledge through Ashta:kshari Maha:mantra, the 8 lettered Narayana mantra!

Core Qualifications of a Guru

One does not become a guru simply by wearing saffron, showing jna:na mudra, and having an audience. This responsibility requires one to observe a pious vow, resolve and devotion towards the goal of giving the highest wisdom for the well-being of every being. A guru is one who:

  • has tremendous nishta, strict adherence to certain niyamas (recommended observances)
  • experiences the ultimate bhagavath-tatva (blissful togetherness with God)
  • worships the supreme mantra (mantra:na:m paramo: mantraha – the greatest of all mantras)

A guru is true to the highest cause only when he worships the mantra that carries the core of all Vedic wisdom, the Narayana mantra!

Core Qualifications of a Sishya

One does not become a true sishya simply by being with a guru. A sishya is one who:

  • is humble (vinaya seelatha)
  • is loyal (vidhe:yata)
  • has complete faith (viswa:sam)

Note here that intelligence is not a qualification. Rather, it is a result of the process, not a pre-requisite! If a student has the above qualifications, proper intelligence automatically follows.

Lakhs of years ago during Swa:yambbhuvu Manvantara, Nara and Narayana appeared at this time of the year on hHsta: nakshatra in the month of Sra:vanam. Their divine taniyan describes the time of birth, place and the greatness of their work.

If you believe in the Ashta:kshari Maha:mantra, meditate upon it and practise it as given by your divine guru. Any type of hurdle (corona virus or any other illness) can be conquered by this mantra.
