Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji Concludes Chaturmasa Deeksha
HH Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji concluded His Chaturmasa Deeksha today on the full moon day of the Bhadrapada month. He had commenced the Deeksha on Guru Poornima, 29th July. As expected, thousands of devotees attended the concluding ceremony to listen to His Holiness’s Anugraha Bhashanam (discourse) and partake of the Teertham.
During the Deeksha period, His Holiness remained at the JIVA Asram and was accessible to devotees every day. His discourses on the Dvaya Mantram and Charama Slokam were attended by large numbers of devotees, who benefited from His profound knowledge and interpretation of Sri Vaishnava traditions.
In His address today, Sri Swamiji expressed satisfaction that He had completed His exposition of the remaining portion of the Thirumanthram, as well as the Dvaya Mantram and Charama Slokam. During the Referring to the hundreds of commentaries on the Bhagavad Gita written by various scholars, Sri Swamiji advised devotees to examine their authenticity using the touchstones of Pramanam and Relevance.
According to Sri Swamiji, Pramanam means remaining faithful to the original text and the tradition. He observed that some commentators have deviated from the original meaning and introduced their own interpretations, thereby obscuring the essence of the Bhagavad Gita. He lamented that such interpretations could even lead some people to lose faith in the Bhagavad Gita itself.
Sri Swamiji cited the following verses from the third chapter of the Bhagavad Gita:
अन्नाद्भवन्ति भूतानि पर्जन्यादन्नसम्भवः ।
यज्ञाद्भवति पर्जन्यो यज्ञः कर्मसमुद्भवः ॥ १४ ॥
annād bhavanti bhūtāni parjanyād anna-sambhavaḥ
yajñād bhavati parjanyo yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ
कर्म ब्रह्मोद्भवं विद्धि ब्रह्माक्षरसमुद्भवम् ।
तस्मात्सर्वगतं ब्रह्म नित्यं यज्ञे प्रतिष्ठितम् ॥ १५ ॥
karma brahmodbhavaṁ viddhi brahmākṣhara-samudbhavam
tasmāt sarva-gataṁ brahma nityaṁ yajñe pratiṣhṭhitam
एवं प्रवर्तितं चक्रं नानुवर्तयतीह यः ।
अघायुरिन्द्रियारामो मोघं पार्थ स जीवति ॥ १६ ॥
evaṁ pravartitaṁ chakraṁ nānuvartayatiha yaḥ
aghāyur indriyārāmo moghaṁ pārtha sa jīvati
Sri Swamiji said that Bhagavad Ramanuja interpreted the Bhagavad Gita by adhering to its original meaning, while some other commentators interpreted these verses in a tangential manner. According to Ramanuja’s interpretation, rain produces food, food sustains the human body, and human beings perform their prescribed karma. When such action sustains the natural order, it becomes Yajna, which in turn leads to rain. Thus, a cycle is established that sustains the world.
Sri Swamiji further explained that a person who enjoys the benefits produced by rain but fails to perform the actions necessary to sustain nature and the cycle of Yajna, incurs sin.
Explaining the significance of Yajna, Sri Swamiji observed that rainfall cannot simply be regarded as an automatic process. The Sun and oceans are always present, and evaporation takes place continuously, yet rain does not fall every day. Even when it rains, not all rainfall is necessarily beneficial to human beings. This, He explained, indicates that beneficial rainfall depends upon factors beyond evaporation and the presence of water—and that factor is Yajna.
Sri Swamiji expressed great satisfaction with the work accomplished during the Chaturmasa Deeksha. He said that He had been able to translate Bhagavad Ramanuja’s Gita Bhashyam up to the fifth chapter into both Telugu and English. These translations are expected to be released as small booklets during the Deepavali celebrations.
Sri Swamiji also expressed appreciation for the efforts of Sri Ahobila Swamiji under the Sri Rama Hridayam programme, through which thousands of devotees are offering prayers to the Kalasams and reciting Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam and Yatiraja Vimsathi.
Following the conclusion of the Deeksha, Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji is travelling to Srirangam and will later proceed to Badrinath.
Speaking on the occasion, Sri Ahobila Swamiji outlined the programmes being planned for the five-day Yatindra Saptati celebrations, beginning on 8th November, the Thirunakshatram of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji. He said that the Kalasams are travelling to all the States of India as well as other countries including Nepal, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.
The Kalasams will return carrying the prayers of lakhs of devotees and will be used in the Sahasra Kalasabhishekam of Lord Saketha Rama in November.
The programme concluded with Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji offering Teertham to all the devotees present, followed by the distribution of Prasadam.
