The world is talking about respecting women by calling out World Women’s Day on 8th March. Vedas did not stop at respecting but took a step further and preached worshipping women. Today was when Maha Lakshmi emerged from the ocean of milk and took Her position in Lord’s heart. She graced all the women with the status of worship. Thus, utthara phalguni day must be celebrated as Vedic Women’s Day!

Vedas declared…
ma:thru de:vo bhava
the first flower as part of worshipping the Lord should be offered at the feet of the mother…

…followed by to father and then to guru;
mother gives form to your body; father is the cause;
guru nourishes your knowledge

Whoever the mother is, she is worthy of being worshiped because she gave your body its form through which you can put your knowledge into practise. In the beginning of this Kaliyuga, our Elders and pu:rva a:cha:ryas worshipped Goda Devi and gracefully seated Her next to Lord for Her immense knowledge and devotion.

Gender doesn’t matter in respecting and worshipping one when there is clarity, purity, and divinity in thought and action!

Thiruppa:n is a Harijan by birth but has jna:na revealing the path to God. Thirumalisai (bhakthisa:ra) is a Dalit by birth but it was proved God in deity form heard and responded to him. They are both worshipped in every temple as a:lwars.

Thousand years ago, Ramanujacharya re-established and proved these fundamentals of Vedic sampradaya that it’s not the birth-based gender, caste, region etc, but jna:na that qualifies one to be worshipped.

He heard about one great brahmin Nallan Chakravarthi who was excommunicated for performing final rites to a tribal. Later, Ramanujacharya was walking through a tribal place (nearby Melkote). He was shocked to see the tribal people lead a systematic Vedic lifestyle that was passed onto them by Nallan Chakravarthi.

He said, “aaha! a dark blue cloud (one with full of jna:na, knowledge and anushta:na, practise) named Nallam Chakravarthi has come all the way here to irrigate the lands (sanctify the tribal area people’s hearts with enriched thoughts and practises)…

With the inspiration from Ramanujacharya, Sreemannarayana Ramanuja Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji built first Harijan colony in India in 1938 spending all the money he had to serve them with an opportunity to prosper. V.V.Giri, Minister of Labour inaugurated it.

In 2004, following Pedda Jeeyar Swamiji’s footsteps, established a residential school for children of tribal people in areas like Allampalli deep in the forest areas. They began to hold a pen when they could be easily exposed to hold a gun. They have now unanimously elected whom they thought will be a good leader, Srimathi Rambha Devi, an able adivasi aiming for a self-sustainable place…

Caste doesn’t matter in respecting and worshipping one where there is interest, dedication, and divinity in thought and action!

May the jna:na of Mother MahaLakshmi reflecting as daya grace us all for a healthier and happier society.
