In a unique initiative, the National Institute of Amateur Radio (NIAR), Hyderabad organised a week long amateur radio training programme for 40 young vedic scholars of Jeeyar Integrated Vedic Academy (JIVA), Shamshabad.
The amateur radio training programme, which was inaugurated by Chinna Jeeyar Swamy on Tuesday, also included training for station operator certificate examination. During the inaugural, Swamy said attempts were on to train close to 1,000 students in government schools on operating HAM radios. NIAR Executive Managing Director Ram Mohan Suri said trained students would have to clear a written examination to get a license to operate HAM radio. The license is issued by Centre’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
“Students over the age of 12 years are eligible for the test. The week-long training programme was aimed at teaching children communication skills, technical experimentation in the field of wireless communication, understanding techniques of voice. data, digital, image and satellite communications through amateur radio,” said Ram Mohan Suri.
Interestingly, a 16-year-old NRI Rohan Kasuganti, took the initiative and motivated the students of JIVA to learn the concepts of basic electronics, its rules and regulations, as required to qualify for getting the Ham radio operating license.The youngster from United States was in Hyderabad on vacation.
