Today, Army hospitals treat battlefield injuries of all soldiers and any civilians in the impacted areas. There is also an extensive combat care plan by the government to save the lives and limbs of all the wounded. What about in ancient days?

There is a mention of who treated Lakshmana in Yuddha Kanda of Srimad Ramayana. It’s interesting to see what kind of treatment was used back then. While we could not preserve the immense wisdom of the ancient doctors in it’s complete form, we have evidences and connection to such episodes.

It was during the Rama-Ravana battle. Lakshmana and Indrajith were trying to win over each other. The fight went on for 3 days. At the end of the 3rd day, Lakshmana emerged victorious. His body was full of injuries from astras (weapons powered by a mantra or tantra) and sastras (weapons made of physical elements of nature). While Lakshmana was giving details of the opponent, Rama called for a physician named Sushena

Sushena examined Lakshamana. He picked up a medicinal plant, made a liquid out of it. He squeezed it into Lakshmana’s nostrils. He completed the treatment in a few minutes. The fragrance and the medicine that was induced into the body healed him in a couple of hours. Lakshmana was ready in normal condition the very next day.

Yuddha Kanda,
Chapter 92

Nature comes with abilities to heal the physical body, because the physical body is made of the five elements of nature. If we do not contaminate nature with artificial chemicals, we will have access to efficient remedies directly from nature. That was the situation back then. Sushena specialised in medical care using elements from nature. Nature has such great capacity!

There is also another incident in recent times when an MLA of Warangal experienced a quick treatment for a long-term illness, asthma from a koya dora (tribal astrolger/doctor). He pressed deep in a spot on the stomach and diagnosed cause. He then took a seed from his bag, made a paste out of it by rubbing on a hard stone with water. He then massaged the paste on the identified spot. The MLA got cured instantly. This is hard to believe considering that it is unproven from a perspective of consistent lab records of using the medicine with written symptoms, cause and treatment.

Medical systems such as Ayurveda, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Allopathy etc each have a unique strength and ability to treat certain conditions more effectively than others. One system is better than other systems depending on the ailment. Every doctor must have basic understanding of each system and analyse which treatment is suitable. If the doctors are aware of unique capabilities of each system, the society will benefit highly.

Today, we are inaugurating a wellness centre named ‘Svantana’ which is spread over hundreds of acres of well persevered nature. The centre aims at educating everyone with a good lifestyle. It plans to encourage keeping ones’ health in one’s own hands through an understanding of the healing power of nature. The centre is not expecting commercial benefit and is looking to help society in bringing nature close to sick people and their families for a more holistic health care.

We can try for the best possible state using various such means. But, it is ultimately the source of power vested within nature and ourselves that decides the fate of the desired state. That power, God always works to protect the genuine interests of good hearted people

Dr.Nagaraju and team have the support and direction of several great personalities such as Gurava Reddy (world-famous orthopedic), Ranadheer Reddy, Yadayya garu etc. Let’s hope that their genuine interests are protected by God and that the centre runs well in educating us all with lost wisdom about the self, the body, the nature and the God.
