A few MPs from Delhi were on an assignment to discuss a proposal, and reached Swamiji. The intent of the discussion was to understand whether declaring Hindi as the national language is a good proposal.
In the days of Sri Rama, what was the language spoken? He was born in Ayodhya. He met Guha in the forests and spent time with him and the residents there. He traveled deeper through the forests and held respectful and in-depth conversations with several sages. He traveled further south and was received by Sabari. He met Hanuman and held a great conversation. He exchanged dialogue with Sugreeva. He discussed a plan of action with Vibhishana. What language did He speak with all of them? It was Sanskrit throughout – North, South, East or West.
Swamiji, not many know Sanskrit now.
How many English or Hindi speakers are there today? Is that count the right reason or base for deciding on National language?
But, how can we take this forward?
When the rulers do not encourage the language of the land as the primary language in schools, what can we say? Change should come there.
Think about this. When you celebrate first feed, first step, first day of education for your child, what language is used by the priests to bless those new beginnings? When one dies, what is the language used in the process of sending off the soul?
One may say, why does it matter what language one uses? Isn’t the purpose of language just to convey what needs to be said? Yes, Sanskrit has been the language of the land since ages. Why should we be the generation who cannot preserve that medium? It is the medium through which the eternal secrets of existence prevail. Can we afford to be that generation which didn’t care for this?
Germany has radio stations which broadcast sessions in Sanskrit. They have about 1200 schools teaching Sanskrit. Think about why a country like Germany is investing in teaching their people in this language? That’s because the access to wealth of Vedic wisdom is protected in this language! Time to reflect and act.

Swamiji, if we continue discussing this with You, we will end up recommending Sanskrit to our leaders at Delhi. We better leave now! :)

Thousands of Pranams to our Swamiji for bringing out the truth. Sanskrit should become the national language and should be taught in schools starting from kindergarten. Sanskrit has an effect on our nervous system, brain. and the mind. When the priest gives blessings in Sanskrit it has a great effect toward the fulfillment of the desired outcome. However, when the same priest gives blessings translated into any other language will not have any effect. One thing so nice is that we have so much Sanskrit vocabulary in Telugu. Jai Sriman Narayana
As Sanskrit is the key element to understand our Vedas, Upanishads and many more religious grandhas of Hinduism, it is time to make kids (future citizens) move towards Sanskrit language with One language one nation.
Let the local languages be learnt as per interest of an individual with no force.
Sanskrit should become National and International language.
There is a village in Karnataka called “Mattur” where it is said everyone,( all castes )speaks Sanskrit. It is worthwhile studying how it is impacting the village society. How it has bettered their lives, before recommending any step to the central government. Language is a deeply divisive factor and closely associated with one’s identity. It is a political bomb in today’s Bharat. As to what language Ramji spoke in while conversing, his divinity perhaps enabled him to speak in many tongues Sanskrit, prakrut tribal and ainimist too. There is another approach to this- the age Rama was in is a subject… Read more »
